Correction: The print edition of this artist got the time of Kate Atwell and Louisa Moody’s concert wrong. It will take place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, not 6:30 p.m. We regret the error.

VashonLive will live-stream two concerts in the coming days from its new winter home at Open Space for Arts & Community. Visit facebook.com/vashonlive to tune in, and don’t forget to leave a virtual tip for the performers and the crew at the pandemic-proof production company.

Kate Atwell and Louisa Moody

At 7:30 p.m Saturday, Jan. 9, there will be a special pop-up performance by two Vashon gems, Kate Atwell and Louisa Moody.

Atwell and Louisa grew up as next-door neighbors, twirling and singing in the fields of Green Gate Farm together. Now, all grown up, they are back on the island that raised them, with new songs.

Atwell, age 22, is a singer and songwriter of folk and Americana music. She has played guitar since 10th grade, learning from local instructor Daryl Redeker. She wrote and performed her first original material when she was a freshman in high school, at a Sharing the Stage concert on Vashon. She also recorded an album with Redeker in 2017. A new album, co-written with Richard Parr, will be released in the summer of 2021.

Moody will graduate in the spring from Western Washington University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Theater Performance. She grew up in a very musical family, but it wasn’t until last year that she learned to play the guitar, and in 2020 she started to write her own songs. She recently choreographed and co-directed a music video to General Mojo’s “Impossible Dreams,” soon to be released with the band’s new album.

Tekla Watereld and Jeff Fielder

At 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10, Tekla Watereld and Jeff Fielder will release their much-anticipated new album, ‘Trouble in Time,” featuring Keith Lowe on upright bass.

Waterfield, a Seattle based indie-folk singer/songwriter, 2018 Listen Up! Women in Music grant recipient, and 2019 Jack Straw Cultural Center recording artist grant recipient, self-released one album before establishing a partnership with her multi-instrumentalist/producer husband Jeff Fielder (Mark Lanegan, Amy Ray, Indigo Girls).

The two released Waterfield’s 2018 album, “The Curtain Falls,” garnering radio play and critical accolades, as well as song placement in the award-winning indie film, “Dakota,” for the song, “Rock and Roll Man.” The music video for Waterfield’s song, “Nice Try,” was selected by the Seattle International Film Festival and One Reel for screening at the 2019 Bumbershoot Music Festival.

Their first-ever project under both names, “Trouble In Time” is an album almost entirely consisting of songs written and recorded during 2020, while in quarantine and in response to the tumultuous events of the year.

Music from the album has been featured on NPR’s World Cafe, and performed on the nationally syndicated National Public Radio show, “Art of the Song” and The Folk Project’s “Acoustic Stayaway.” The duo has an upcoming appearance on “Art Zone” on the Seattle Channel, as well. Reviews for the album are slated to be published in American Songwriter, No Depression and Americana UK. The duos’ performances have been presented by 91.3 KBCS, 90.3 KEXP, KING5 Evening News, Artist Home, Bellevue Art Museum, 4Culture and more.
