Head to the harbour icon as Opera Australia sing a few of the greatest hits out loud and proud
Are you keen to try opera on for size but a little intimidated by the length of most shows and the often hefty price tag? Well, Opera Australia has just what you’re looking for.
Described as ‘opera but without the boring bits’, Great Opera Hits is a zippy 90-minute collection of all the most famous tunes you might not be able to name but will definitely know from film scores and car ads. It’s the best way to dip your toes in and see if the art form is something you might like to explore.
Pulling out all the stops, each gig assembles four of Opera Australia’s brightest young stars from an A-team including Sharon Zhai, Shanul Sharma, Petah Chapman, Luke Gabbedy, Celeste Haworth, Simon Kim, Haotian Qi, Agnes Sarkis and Alexander Sefton, as hosted by a one of Australia’s most popular conductors and performers, Guy Noble.
From Verdi to Puccini via Rossini and Bizet, Noble will take your hand and lead you through their greatest hits with a big dollop of humour to disappear any reservations you might have about braving the world of operatic excellence. With tickets starting at $69, the show is an approachable entry level that really does underline that the Opera House belongs to the Australian people.
