Bharatanatyam dancer propagates ‘SMS’ to fight Covid-19 | Chennai News

CHENNAI: SMS means short message service, but for Bharatanatyam dancer and teacher Chinnamanur J Krishna Kumar, it is social-distancing, mask and sanitizer.
Krishna Kumar has been active in taking online classes and closely in touch with students and their parents to make them think and practise “SMS” to fight the spread of Covid-19.
Propagating the Tamil proverb “Noyatra Vazhavey Kuravatra Selvam” (Life without sickness is the limitless wealth), he has released a video in which he performs to a song “Corona…Corona…” sung by veteran singer S P Balasubrahmanyam and written by famous lyricist R Vairamuthu.
A disciple of Padmabhushan awardee C V Chandrasekhar and recipient of Swarna Kamal award from the central government, Krishna Kumar has been using Bharatanatyam for spreading positive messages in society.
The idea is to motivate other artists to try new methods of continuing their service during this lockdown, thus giving hope to other artists, students and parents to deal with every possible opportunity to make “life as usual.”
